Luc Anselin
Stein-Freiler Distinguished Service Professor of Sociology and the College @University of Chicago
Luc Anselin is Stein-Freiler Distinguished Service Professor of Sociology and the College at the University of Chicago, where he founded and directs the Center for Spatial Data Science. He previously held positions at Arizona State University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Texas at Dallas, the Regional Research Institute, UC-Santa Barbara, and the Ohio State University. He was a visiting professor at MIT and Brown University. He holds a PhD in Regional Science from Cornell University. His research deals with methods to handle the complexities of spatial data, both in spatial econometrics and in exploratory spatial data analysis. He developed the SpaceStat and GeoDa software for spatial data exploration. He is a Fellow of RSAI (2004) and was awarded the Walter Isard (2005) and William Alonso prize (2006) of NARSC. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2008 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011.
